When traveling to tropical places, you must try out the tropical foods and fruits available at the markets. Foods at the tropics have an exotic taste to it, nothing like your convention fruits that you find at your local grocery store. Here are a couple of popular tropical fruits.

Pomegranates: pomegranates are juicy red fruits that grow from a fairly small tree that only stands 5 to 8 meters tall. Originally, the fruit came from Iran , but then was grown in the Mediterranean. The pomegranate fruit has little edible seeds inside that are juicy. They come with a mild sweet taste with every bite. Not only does this tropical fruit taste great, they also come with health benefits. They provide you with 40% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C per 100ml. The juices of the pomegranate also includes antioxidant polyphenols and folic acid.

Star Fruits: Star fruits are uniquely shaped fruits that has a shape of a star when cut into two pieces. The star fruit is also known as the carambola. Native to India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, it is also grown in other tropical regions such as Guyana, Peru and Brazil. The flavor of this fruit is mainly sweet and acidic. Although it has several different vitamins, the fruit is not recommended for those who have kidney trouble due to it’s oxalic acid content.

Jackfruits: The jackfruit is a bumpy green skinned oval shaped fruit. It is native so Sri Lanka and India but has been introduced to other tropical regions such as Malay Peninsula. Jackfruits can be prepared in many ways, they can come in salads, vegetable dishes and even drinks.

Even though there are some exotic fruits that are found in regular grocery stores, to get the best out of the tropics, you must try the native grown fruits! These fresh ripe fruits can easily be found in any of the tropical locations you visit.
